چکیده
The crack growth behaviour of the alloy CM 247 LC is investigated for out-of-phase TMF and isothermal tests at same temperature as minimum in tests. results suggest that it possible to characterise if experimental corrections closure are accounted for. replication these using a numerical FE-solver similar behaviour, suggesting main mechanism place plasticity-induced closure. A pragmatic analytical model including hold time effects proposed. comparison response from this with suggests proposed capable approximate cases where substantial creep deformation be expected.

On Crack Closure and Crack Tip Shielding during Fatigue Crack Growth
Fatigue crack growth can be strongly influenced by crack closure, i. e., the contacting of the opposing faces of a fatigue crack above the minimum load in a loading cycle. This crack closure shields the crack tip from the full stress field, but different views are held regarding the extent of this shielding. The type of closure, whether it be plasticity-induced, or roughness-induced may also pl...
متن کاملAnalyses of Fatigue Crack Growth and Closure Near Threshold Conditions for Large-Crack Behavior
A plasticity-induced crack-closure model was used to study fatigue crack growth and closure in thin 2024-T3 aluminum alloy under constant-R and constant-Kmax threshold testing procedures. Two methods of calculating crack-opening stresses were compared. One method was based on contact-K analyses and the other on contact crack-openingdisplacement (COD) analyses. These methods gave nearly identica...
متن کاملTheory for the rate of crack closure
The theory for the constant rate of crack closure was investigated. The aim of this theory is to explain why the rate of crack closure is constant during the wetting stage of healing. Assuming that a surface crack in a material is treated by compression or with solvent, its crack closes up at a constant rate and its shape is independent of time. This approach was based on the Gibbs energy of an...
متن کاملCrack Linkup by Stable Crack Growth
Experimentally determined T ε and CTOA resistance curves were used to simulate numerically, stable crack growth and the ensuing crack linkup in 0.8 mm thick 2024-T3 aluminum tension specimen with multiple site damage (MSD) subjected to monotonically/cyclically increasing loading. The T ε integral correctly predicted the crack growth and linkup history as well as the onset of rapid fracture in M...
متن کاملCHARACTERIZATION OF TRANSVERSE CRACK AND CRACK GROWTH IN A RAILWAY RAIL
Abstract: To ensure the rail transportations safety, evaluation of fatigue behavior of the rail steel is necessary. High cycle fatigue behaviour of a rail steel was the subject of investigation in this research using fracture mechanics. Finite element method (FEM) was used for analyzing the distribution of the stresses on the rail, exerted by the external load. FEM analysis showed that the ...
